Technology consulting is the process through which professionals determine how best organisations can use IT to achieve their business objectives. It demands a rich understanding of the IT landscape, as well as the ability to strategically align business processes with available technology.
Those working in technology consulting drive performance, innovation and profitability within the organisations they work with – developing transformational capabilities, agile architecture and executional excellence. Synthesizing and analysing information, business and technology consulting roles involve liaising closely with stakeholders to develop an understanding of the structure, policies and operations of an organisation; working on an internal or external basis to align the needs of the business with the technological capabilities.
For those looking for a career in technology consulting, an in-depth understanding of both qualitative and quantitative analysis, along with the capacity to implement and manage technology to realise benefits within an organisation is essential. Those in technology consulting are expected to have a deep understanding of the workings of organisational processes – and will be capable of advising on their improvement and maintenance.
Able to define and validate solutions in order to meet the goals, needs and objectives of a particular organisation or client, technology consultants will manage business transformation, lead process and change interventions, improve project and program delivery and increase the value gained by suppliers. Capable of engaging directly with clients and businesses, technology consultants are resourceful individuals.
Ideally, to work in technology consulting, candidates need a Bachelor’s Degree in Management of Information Systems (MIS) or Computer Science. Those who are MCA certified are highly desirable.
